Calling all Riesling lovers! We are excited to welcome Warren Leonard from Weygandt Wines on Friday November 18th at 7:00pm, to sample Rieslings from Austria, Alsace, and Germany. GWS member Dave Wendler and board member Joe Aguiar, who have both organized events for us before (Dave often handles New Vintages, and Joe recently presented World Rieslings), are planning this event.
We will open the event with a brief educational discussion on the wine labelling and winemaking terminologies used on wine bottles in Austria, Alsace, and Germany and then Warren will walk us through each wine. It will be a great opportunity to compare and contrast the nuances and differences between different climates, terroirs, and winemaking methods. Warren will walk us through the whole spectrum of Riesling styles…and by the end you will be an expert in deciphering the labels of Europe’s great Rieslings and more importantly, will be able to see the differences (if you’ve not had the pleasure already!) in style achieved by the Riesling grape.
The tasting will be held in at:
The Van Ness Room
3001 Veazey Terrace NW
Washington, DC 20008
It is very easy to get to there via the red line to Van Ness Metro Station. Thank you to GWS member, Klaus Teuter, for reserving the Van Ness room for use by the German Wine Society.
Light refreshments of cheese and crackers will be served with the wines. We will feature 12 wines from: Austria’s famous Wachau and Kamptal regions, Alsace Grand Cru, and Germany’s Pfalz and Mosel regions. Here is the full wine list:
