SUMMARY:GWS New Vintage Tasting (2019) w Phil Bernstein - October 15\, 2021
DESCRIPTION:Every year we host a tasting to try German wines from the new vintage\, with a focus on Riesling. Our host is Phil Bernstein\, General Manager of MacArthur Beverages\, one of the leading retailers of German Riesling in the country. Every year\, Phil brings fabulous wines for us to try and this year will definitely be no exception.  The new vintage is 2019 which has been described as the the best vintage in Germany in 40 years\, exceptional\, potentially a 100 point vintage.   If you came to our New Vintage Plus tasting of Germany’s 2018 wines on September 17\, this is your chance to compare these two great years.   If you were not at the previous tasting\, this is your last chance to attend a New Vintage event this year\, and order some of your favorites through Phil.   DATE:  Friday\, October 15th\, 2021.  Doors open at 6:30 pm; tasting begins at 7:00 pm. VENUE: The Colonnades\, 2801 New Mexico Ave\, NW\, Washington\, DC. There is parking on New Mexico Ave and valet parking for a small fee.   It is best to drive or take a cab or bus to arrive there; the location is not very close to Metro. All members and guests are reminded that alcohol consumption can lead to intoxication.   Therefore\, Society members and guests are expected to drink in moderation at Society events.  It is advisable to provide designated drivers where available\, use available public transportation\, or mostly to taste rather than consume alcohol when not using those options. Finally\, because we want all of our members and guests to enjoy this event in the greatest degree of safety possible under current health conditions\, we are requiring that everyone attending this event be fully vaccinated for covid-19.  You will be requested to show proof of vaccination when entering the event (or optionally in advance as indicated below).   If you do not provide such proof\, you will not be admitted to the event – NO EXCEPTIONS.   Please also have masks on when arriving at the event to comply with applicable rules for indoor events in D.C. – you will be able to remove them when eating and drinking.   As an option\, you can submit a legible photocopy of your proof of vaccination (CDC Card or other public health authority certificate) to the President and Secretary\, Carl Willner\, in advance of the event\, by email to carl.willner1@verizon.net or with a registration form if mailed in\, and have this requirement checked off on our registration list before arrival.
