SUMMARY:Spargelfest 2015
DESCRIPTION:Dear German Wine Society Members and Friends of German Wine\,We are at that time of year again for our traditional Spargelfest  dinner. This year we have the great pleasure to announce our return to the German Embassy House\, after an absence of several years while the Embassy was under renovation. We were last at the German Embassy in May 2010\, and our longtime members will fondly recall many excellent Spargelfests we held there.   This year’s Spargelfest will be on Friday\, May 15\, 2015 at 7 pm. The price for this very special event will be $83 for members and $93 for non-members. The Board encourages all members and friends of the Society to reserve as early as possible\, as this Spargelfest is expected to be very popular. The deadline for reservations is Monday\, May 11\, 2015.  We need to provide a final list of participants to the chef and for security purposes. Last-minute walk-ins will not be permitted\, and everyone must have a picture ID to be admitted. We will begin this memorable evening with a Sekt reception and appetizers\, served outside on the Embassy House terrace if weather permits. We anticipate several Embassy officials and staff joining us for the evening\, giving you the opportunity to talk with them.  Dinner will be in the Embassy House itself\, buffet-style following the plated salad course.  The evening will unfold as follows:   WELCOME: NV Henkell Riesling Sekt Rhein and Passed Hors D’oeuvres Spargeltoast mit Rührei (asparagus toasts with scrambled egg\, house smoked salmon\, chives) Asparagus Spoons (stir fried asparagus with shiitakes\, shrimp\, scallions & a cilantro-lime vinaigrette) Asparagus Tempura (sweet chili dipping sauce)   DINNER 2013 Gruener Veltliner\, Hofkirch\, Austria\, QbA\, Trocken 2012 Bollig Lehnert Trittenheimer Apotheke\, Riesling\, Kabinett\, Mosel  Spargelsalat Vinaigrette (asparagus salad with miso dressing\, oranges & grapefruit & grilled fresh hearts of palm)   Main Course 2010 JJ Prüm Graacher Himmelreich\, Riesling\, Spätlese\, Mosel 2008 Fitz-Ritter Gewürztraminer\, Spätlese\, Pfalz Black Forest Ham White and Green Asparagus Salzkartoffeln Herb-crusted Rainbow Trout Sauce Choron / Sauce Hollandaise Warm Rolls and Breads   Dessert  2010 JJ Prüm\, Graacher Himmelreich\, Riesling\, Auslese\, Mosel   (compare with the JJ Prüm Spätlese in main course) 2001 Pfeffingen\, Ungsteiner Herrenberg\, Scheurebe\, Auslese\, Pfalz (waiting 14 years for you to enjoy this evening!) A limited amount of parking is available on nearby streets off Foxhall Road. Guests should plan to arrive by driving\, taxi or the nearest bus lines (D6 is closest\, walk uphill on Foxhall). All Society members and guests are reminded that alcohol consumption can lead to intoxication\, and therefore Society members and their guests are expected to drink in moderation at Society events. It is advisable to provide designated drivers or other modes of transit where available\, or mostly to taste rather than consume alcohol when such drivers or alternative means of transportation are not available.
