SUMMARY:Annual Oktober Weinfest (October 5th\, 2019)
DESCRIPTION:ANNOUNCING GERMAN WINE SOCIETY OKTOBER WEINFEST IN THE MAGNIFICENT MOSEL! “Tasting a superlative Moselle can be an aesthetic experience no less genuine than hearing a Mozart concerto well played\, or seeing for the first time one of Breughel’s paintings.”  Frank Schoonmaker\, The Wines of Germany (1956). This year the German Wine Society will celebrate its annual Oktober Weinfest by savoring the wonderful wines of the Mosel.  This wine region has long been famed for its outstanding Rieslings\, grown in the slate of steep-sided vineyards lining the winding river banks.  Here are found many of the best-known vineyards and producers in all of Germany\, and in this tasting\, accompanied by an Oktoberfest meal\, you will have the opportunity to sample a wide variety of the best the Mosel has to offer. We will gather on Saturday\, October 5 starting at 3 pm for sign-in\, with the event beginning at 3:30 pm\, at the Harbour Square clubroom\, 500 N Street\, SW\, Washington\, DC.  Our member Marilyn Scarborough has reserved a few parking spaces\, but we cannot guarantee parking for all.  The Waterfront Metro Station (Green Line) is also within walking distance nearby. The 15 wunderbar Mosel wines we will enjoy cover nearly all of the most renowned Grosslage areas of the Middle Mosel in Bereich (wine district) Bernkastel\, as well as parts of the Upper Mosel and adjoining Luxembourg: Table One Three Droplets of Gold:  Producers in the famed Piesporter Goldtröpfchen\, Grosslage Michelsberg 2016 St. Christopher Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Riesling Spätlese Mosel 2017 Bollig-Lehnert Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Riesling Spätlese Mosel 2013 Haart Piesporter Goldtröpfchen Riesling Kabinett Mosel Table Two The Doctor is In:  Dr. Thanisch Wines from the Legendary Bernkasteler Doktor\, Grosslage Badstube 2017 Dr. H. The price for this event will be $68 for members\, and $75 for non-members.   Registration is due by Sunday\, Sept. 30\, 2019 to give us sufficient time to ensure wine and food for all and provide a full list of guests to building staff.               There are two ways to register for the Oktober Weinfest.   To register and pay electronically by PayPal\, you will need to register as either a member or a non-member guest\, and have a PayPal account already established to complete payment.  Register for this Event click hereAlternatively\, if you would like to register and pay by check\, please use the form below.  Detach the form\, complete it with information on all attendees including member or non-member status\, and mail it\, with your check in the appropriate amount\, made out to the “German Wine Society\,” to the Chapter President and acting Secretary\, Carl Willner\, at the following address: 1014 Reserve Champion Drive\, Rockville\, MD\, 20850.   Please allow enough time if mailing for your registration to arrive before the deadline.  If paying at the lower rate for members\, please be sure that your membership status is current (that is\, that you have paid dues as an individual or couple within the past year\, including renewing your membership in connection with this event – dues can also be paid online or by check).
