Delaware Valley/Philadelphia Chapter event (August 8, 2018)

Our next event is our much anticipated, annual food and wine dinner conceived, designed and executed by chapter member, chef extraordinare Tony “Global Winechef” Lawrence, the owner of A CHEF FOR YOU, LLC, based in Philadelphia, Pa., a lifestyle wine and food public relations and consulting company. Tony also works globally as a food and wine pairing specialist/event planner with major wineries, importers, distributors and fine wine shops. For over thirty years, he has been trained as a chef, sommelier, a certified wine judge, freelance writer, lecturer, and a food and wine educator.

Tony started to develop his skills at twelve years of age in the restaurants and the vineyards of Maryland. His formal culinary training began in vocational school, then summers in Germany, learning the foods and wines of Europe. He has a BS degree in Hotel, Restaurant Management from Widener University in Pennsylvania and is a Pro-chef CIA graduate from Greystone, in Napa, CA. Tony is a serious wine collector with a three thousand+ -bottle cellar, he is all about the wine as well as the food.

Our “thrown down” theme this year is Old World Germany Wine Regions vs New World Pennsylvania Germanic wines. We will be enjoying a wine pairing dinner featuring 5 regional styles/varietals of German wines paired with 5 Germanic varietals from Ferro Vineyards & Winery of Susquehanna Valley, PA. The menu will showcase these ten wines, two at a time, with a five course menu to include appetizers, salad and soup combo, seafood course, entree course and dessert tying the two “Worlds” together. While chef is still finalizing the menu, if anyone has any food allergies, please let me know in your response so that I may inform the chef. This is always one of our most popular events of the year. You are encouraged to make reservations at your earliest convenience to avoid disappointment.

DATE: Wednesday, August 8, 2018

PLACE: Lawrence Residence
239 East High Street
Germantown, PA 19144 (For GPS, the city is Philadelphia)

Delaware Valley/Philadelphia German Wine Society Chapter – Wine Tasting event (June 28, 2018)

After a year long hiccup in our supply system, we are back on track and working to bring you the level and frequency of programming that has been our standard. We were hopeful of having an importer/winemaker in either May or this month, but have endured scheduling issues. So, we are going to take this opportunity to present a selection of wines from our national conference held one year ago in Washington, D.C. The programs were diverse and the wines interesting, and our sampling here very representative of the diversity of wines served on the whole. Yours truly will be presenting. Even if you attended the conference, I think you will agree that the wines are worth revisiting.  The wines included are:

Barth Riesling Brut NV (sekt) (Rheingau)
2014 Meyer-Nakel Spatburgunder (Ahr)
2014 Hans Wirsching Iphofer-Julius Echterberg Riesling GG (Franken)
2013 Von Winning Deidesheimer Paradiesgarten Riesling Trocken (Pfalz)
2015 Ratzenberger Bacharacher Riesling feinherb (Mittlerhein)
2013 von Kesselstatt Josephshofer Riesling Kabinett (Mosel)
2012 Willi Schaefer Graacher Dombprobst Riesling Spatlese (Mosel)
2013 Kruger Rumpf Scheurebe Spatlese (Nahe)

The tasting will be held at the award winning Caffe Aldo Lamberti in Cherry Hill, NJ. Recently honored by the Wine Spectator for their wine selection, our Chapter has enjoyed the wonderful service and outstanding food at this location for the past several years. For this event, a cold anti pasta and hot appetizers served family style will be included with the tasting. By popular request, the hot appetizers will feature some new items. Please plan to join us for this very special event.
