San Francisco Wine Event (July 17th, 2021)

The San Francisco Chapter of the German Wine Society’s next event (our first in-person event since February 2020) will be a special tasting of a dozen wines from the heralded 2001 vintage, including six Spätlese wines, four Auslese wines, and two Beerenauslese wines (see the Excel file tasting sheet accompanying this notice for the list of wines).  All of these wines have been donated by our Assistant Cellarmaster, John Bender, having been stored in his temperature-controlled cellar.  There will be enough food served buffet style for a full dinner, including dessert. The full price for this event just for the wines alone should be about $100.00 per person, but the cost per person for this event will be just $50.00 per person, including food.  Most of the wines are no longer available per wine-searcher.com. This event is a Members Only event, which means that any 2021 Dues Paid Member may attend and may bring one guest, with each attendee paying the $50.00 per person price.  It will also be a requirement to attend this event that each attendee must be fully vaccinated at the time of the event, i.e, have had no later than the end of June two shots of the Moderna or Pfizer COVID 19 vaccine or one shot of the Johnson & Johnson COVID 19 vaccine. Date: Saturday, July 17, 2021  Time: 7:00-9:00 p.m. Where:  Home of Joan and Barry Boothe, 2435 Divisadero Street, San Francisco. Street parking is available in the area. Cost:  The price for this event will be $50 per person.  To avoid the additional $10 per person late charge, please reply by Friday, July 9, with payment to be received by the Treasurer by Tuesday, July 13th.  Monday, July 12th, will be the last day to RSVP late (and pay the $10 per person late fee), with payment to be received by the Treasurer by Thursday, July 15th.  Please RSVP early to give us sufficient time to ensure the amount of wine and food to serve for all. Food:  There will be our usual spread of enough delectable food to make a full meal. RSVP is Required! Please send a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ response to Barry Boothe by the initial deadline of July 9th.  Barry‘s email (preferred):  barrypboothe@aol.com  To avoid the $10 per person late fee, checks must be received by the initial deadline payment date of Tuesday, July 13th, at the latest. Please notify us know if you have any dietary restrictions or allergies. We suggest those attending either utilize designated drivers or other modes of transit where available, or mostly taste rather than consume alcohol when such drivers or alternative means of transportation are not available. Philadelphia Wine Dinner Event (Feb. 19th, 2020)

Happy Chinese New Year!  2020 ushers in the Year of the Rat,  for those born in 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996 and 2008. “Rats” are leaders, pioneers and conquerors. They are charming, passionate, charismatic, practical and hardworking. Rat people are endowed with great leadership skills and are the most highly organized, meticulous, and systematic of the twelve signs. To honor the Rats among us (and everyone else) we will be holding our annual banquet with a return visit to Han Dynasty, located in the Sawmill Village Plaza in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, a mere 5 minutes from our usual meeting place at Lamberti’s. Now with 6 locations, Han Dynasty enjoys a fantastic reputation for food, with the flagship location in center city Philadelphia garnering a coveted 3 Bells from Craig LaBan of the Philadelphia Inquirer. For those fearful of spicy food, there will be dishes in a range of heat, from none to spicy. We will be pairing the food with some excellent, easy drinking, great value German wines. Food will be served family style, as is typical at a Chinese banquet. The chef has asked that I let the restaurant know of any food allergies, so please include that information in your RSVP. Bring a hearty appetite, and plan to join us for a great evening. For those of you who have not yet forwarded your 2020 dues, we ask that you do so as soon as possible.
